Why I chose my major

As someone going into the medical field, I was looking for a major that offered insight into human development beyond the biological level. As a future physician, I believe it is important to look beyond the symptoms a person is experiencing. Human Development and Family Science has given me the ability to take a different perspective and consider all aspects of a person’s life and how it can affect their health — specifically culture, family dynamics, and personal emotional development. It is important to provide empathetic care, and my major has given me the skills I need to do that to the fullest of my ability.

What I like most about FACS

I like FACS because it is a place of acceptance. The FACS community is a close-knit family where everyone is willing to help. Coming from a small high school, I was looking for a place that had a similar environment. The smaller class sizes allow for a more personal connection with both the students and professors. Everyone is immersed in an environment where you work hand-in-hand with your peers.
