Thank you for your interest in making a donation to UGA’s Anne Barge Historic Clothing and Textile Collection (HCTC). Our ability to accept new donations is limited by storage space. However, we are always interested in finding ways to enhance our collection through the addition of select items that are aligned with our mission and meet the needs of students and researchers.
Donation Protocol
Thank you for your interest in donating to the University of Georgia’s Historic Clothing and Textile Collection (HCTC). We welcome inquiries about potential donations that support the collection’s educational, research, and preservation missions.
Step 1: Submit a Donation Inquiry
To propose a donation, please complete our Donation Inquiry Survey. The survey allows you to provide information about your proposed donation, including the history and significance of your item(s). HCTC staff will review your inquiry based on the collection’s current needs, collecting priorities, and available resources. Following the initial inquiry, staff may contact you via email to request photographs or additional information.
Step 2: In-Person Review
If your proposed donation is selected for further consideration, HCTC staff will contact you to arrange an in-person review. Items approved for review may be brought to UGA’s campus and accepted as temporary loans for evaluation. Please do not deliver or ship items without prior approval.
Step 3: Collection Evaluation and Decision
All proposed additions to the permanent collection are evaluated by HCTC staff. Reviews are conducted on a rolling basis, depending on the volume of inquiries and available resources. Donors will receive written notification of the final decision.
Approval for in-person review does not guarantee acceptance into the permanent collection. If an item is not accepted, donors will have thirty days following the conclusion of the evaluation period to retrieve their items. Additional instructions will be provided during the review process.
For questions about the donation process, please contact ugahctc@uga.edu.
Other Needs
Preserving historic clothing and textiles requires proper archival materials and many hours of work. These resources are very costly, but are a necessary investment to ensure that future generations will be able to appreciate and learn from our valuable collection of historic objects. Please consider making a monetary donation to the HCTC to support our collection care efforts and help us preserve our objects for many years to come by clicking here.
We truly appreciate your interest in supporting our Historic Costume and Textile Collection. Please email ugahctc@uga.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
